Emily Fuchs, Occupational Health Nurse Intern at Waupaca Foundry Plant 5, Tell City, Indiana.

currently attending school at Vincennes University, Jasper Campus, and is majoring in nursing. Her family who works at Waupaca Foundry inspired her to join the team. Her dad, Terry Fuchs, is a Melt Foreman and her brother, Kyle Fuchs works in the IT department.

While her family connection initially drew her to Waupaca Foundry, Emily desires to make a positive impact. "I want a career that makes a difference." So, she pursued nursing. She began her journey at Waupaca Foundry in her senior year of high school in 2018 and has continued to return each summer as an intern.

Emily’s passion for aiding others keeps her motivated. "I like to help people." One of her main projects this summer was to facilitate a new training medium for paramedics, first responders, and EMT. Typically, in-person training, but due to COVID-19, it was completed virtually in 2020. Being able to assist others in this time of need has been a positive experience for her.

Emily gained real-world experience and skills to apply to future work. She learned the importance of time management. She uses these skills by completing COVID-19 sterilizing procedures before and after screenings; however, she still manages her time being available at the scheduled appointment. These additional procedures are timely and decrease availability for other work, however, they are necessary. Proper time management will help her with scheduling appointments in the future while allowing enough time for sterilizing.

Emily was given the opportunity to interact with employees to help further advance her communication skills as a nurse. Interacting with multiple employees daily gave her more confidence in communicating as a professional.

Waupaca Foundry has a wide variety of employment opportunities for college students and young professionals on both the production and management sides. There are ample opportunities for career advancement in all areas of the business. “This place has so many open doors.” Emily reports.

The Summer Help Program at Waupaca Foundry provides valuable work experience and an insight into the variety of professional and manufacturing careers. Students interested in summer employment and internships at Waupaca Foundry are encouraged to apply.
“I wouldn’t change anything about my internship. I know my experience at Waupaca will help me in the future and nursing school” –Emily Fuchs.
