Carlos Martinez, a 2024 NEW Manufacturing Alliance All Stars honoree, immigrated from Mexico for an engineering position at HART Design & Manufacturing in Green Bay. Experts say importing top talent from outside the U.S. is a key opportunity and strategy that should be embraced by Wisconsin manufacturers grappling with workforce shortages. HART Design & Manufacturing In 2021, Carlos Martinez took a chance on a dream.The native of Mexico submitted his resume to HART Design & Manufacturing, a Green Bay-based manufacturer of cheese processing and packaging machines that are deployed across five continents.Martinez, a mechatronics engineer, had worked on HART machines years prior at Mexico’s Groupo Lala, one of the world’s largest dairy companies.“He really liked our equipment, looked us up many years later and found we were recruiting for a field service technician,” says HART Director of Human Resources Heather Marconi.

Governor visits New London

Gov. Tony Evers came to New London June 29 and announced two state grants to encourage local job growth. The Waupaca County Economic Development Corp. will receive $3.2 million for 24-hour workforce transportation services in Waupaca and Outagamie counties. Goodwill Industries of North Central Wisconsin was awarded $6.5 million to enlist 200 trainers who will help people who have experienced trauma to prepare for careers. Both programs seek to help solve the ongoing labor shortage in Wisconsin.
