Waupaca Foundry Sustainability Targets
Committed to Water Conservation
Operating a successful foundry used to require a lot of water. It can be used in the casting process, where it gets contaminated and has to be pre-treated, or it can be used to cool running machinery. As a result of plant improvements implemented over the last decade, contaminated process water requiring wastewater treatment and discharge has been completely eliminated from Waupaca Foundry plants.
Waupaca Foundry also installed closed-loop cooling water systems to reduce the amount of water needed to cool machinery. Completed systems have cut plant cooling water demands by 80% or more, and non-contact cooling water discharges reduced to near zero.
The plants are currently in the process of designing additional closed loop systems so Waupaca Foundry can be removed from the water discharge cycle forever.
